About me

Hi there, I’m Cydney. I’m a poet passionate about using words as a vessel for truth, transformation, and authenticity. My journey with poetry began in fifth grade when I needed a medium to express what I was experiencing, and I found poetry. That initial spark has only intensified with time.

In 2023, I was a National Youth Poet Laureate finalist, an honor that allowed me to connect with other poets, work with children, and share the power of poetry with people. I am also the Emerita Philadelphia Youth Poet Laureate, author of the book “Daydreaming,” and producer of the Spoken Word album “Roundtrip.”

I’ve recited poetry at The Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia Convention Center, Benjamin Franklin Hall, Lincoln University, The Barnes Foundation, The Ideas We Should Steal Festival, and The Kelly’s Writers House. My poetry explores the topics of social justice, self-image, love, and nature.

In all forms, I seek to better myself: my craft, my understanding, and my impact. I approach challenges head-on, dedicating focused time and energy, while also learning to work incrementally and gather feedback. I take every day as a step towards a better version of myself, setting goals and working relentlessly to achieve them.
Faith is foundational to who I am, both as a poet and an individual. As a Christian, I trust that God places me in the spaces where I’m meant to be and guides the value I bring. Honesty is non-negotiable in my work. In an age of misinformation, I see the poet’s role as a truthteller to invite deeper inquiry. If my work interests you, I would love to connect.
